Caja De Muertos
On Friday morning, even though Kurt was spending time in Old San Juan leaving three girls and a captain behind, we decided to sail to Caja De Muertos (Coffin Island). Steve, our captain, single-handedly sailed us to the small island that is the setting for pirate legends, a hilltop lighthouse, a beach with turquoise water, and hiking trails. We anchored the boat leeward as we wanted to spend the night of a full moon away from the hum and buzz of Ponce's marina. We visited the island's "museum", a small collection of photographs with the island caretakers warning us not to come in contact with a burning shrub. While we hiked to the lighthouse, this shrub was nowhere to be found but we did see a couple of green tailed lizards.
